at the Honolulu Diamond Sangha, Hawai'i

In celebration of Soen Nakagawa Roshi's one hundredth anniversary of his birth, flowers and his picture were placed on the altar. Part of the sutra service was this dedication, spoken by the Ino:

"We dedicate our zazen and our sutras this morning to Nakagawa Soen Roshi, one of Aitken Roshi's first teachers and the first teacher of the Diamond Sangha,on the 100th anniversary of his birth."

The Sangha chanted this dedication:

"We especially dedicate our zazen and our sutras to you, Mitta Soen, Dai Osho. Your practice, words, and work helped bring this Sangha and this valley temple into being.

The lamp you carried we carry on.
Let true Dharma continue,
Sangha relations become complete."

At the end of the sutra service, the Sangha went up one by one to light incense at the altar. Aitken Roshi was the last in line and looked at Soen Roshi's picture for a long time before lighting a stick of incense.

Many memories, I'm sure.
